Excursion

For our excursion we will be going to the Giant's Causeway.

This is an exciting place, full of myth, mystery and amazing scenery.  On one side there are huge cliffs, while on the other is the North Atlantic Ocean.  Some of the most amazing pieces of artistic scenery have been created and inspired from here.

The Giant’s Causeway, located along the stunning North Antrim Coast, is an area of approximately 40,000 columns, the result of ancient volcanic activity 60 million years ago. Legend tells the story of how the giant Finn McCool created the Causeway as a challenge to his Scottish rival Benandonner. As well as being Northern Ireland’s only World Heritage Site, the Giant’s Causeway is also a National Nature Reserve and lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

There are lots of questions about the Giant's Causeway, how were all the stones formed? How did there get to be so many? Did this come from science or from storytellers? There's a great story about the Irish giant, Finn McCool, who built this to link Ireland and Scotland. People believed so much in this that Giant's Causeway got its' name from Finn McCool.

When we spend the day here we will have the opportunity to have a guided tour and walk through the Giant's Causeway, exploring and enjoying the amazing scenery. There is also an interactive Welcome Centre for those who do not want to walk far or face the coldness(!) and a lovely hotel on-site that offer great food and drinks too.  All round, there is plenty to do and plenty to see.

We are very excited about this excursion and think we will really get to show you all an insight into the wonderful sights of Ireland!
